On 28th June, 2016, Experience Sharing Workshop on Community Disaster Reduction and Relief of the Sharing and Learning on Community-based Disaster Management in Asia Phase II, hosted by National Disaster Reduction Center of China of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, Department for International Development of United Kingdom (DFID), United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and organized by Disaster Reduction Center of Sichuan Province, was held in Chengdu, Sichuan. About 50 representatives from disaster management departments, local communities,research institutions, UNDP and other international organizations in Bangladesh, China, Nepal and UK participated in the workshop. Yang Siquan,Chief Engineer of the National Disaster Reduction Center of China of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, Zhangli, Deputy Director General of the Department of Civil Affairs of Sichuan Province, MD Mohsin, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief of Bangladesh, Narayan Thapa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Nepal, Patrick Haverman, Deputy Country Director of UNDP China attended the opening ceremony and delivered opening remarks.

      The Sharing and Learning on Community Based Disaster Management in Asia Programme aims to enhance the capacity of communities in disaster prevention, reduction and relief and explore new mechanisms and models for international exchange and cooperation in DRR by community-based experience sharing and cooperation practices. Through presentations, panel discussion and field trip, this workshop provides aplatform for experts to share experiences and suggestions in four sessions—“community-based emergency relief materials allocation”, “community disaster risk mapping”, “community-based disaster information sharing and service platform” and “community post-disaster recovery and reconstruction”, which provide important evidence and support for next steps of the project.
