On 17th April, 2017, the Training Course on Earthquake Emergency Search and Rescue, a key activity of “Community Based Disaster Management in Asia Project (CBDM Asia) Phase II”, co-hosted by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China (MCA) and UK Department for International Development (DFID), and organized by National Disaster Reduction Center of China (NDRCC) of MCA and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was held in Beijing. Around 52 participants attended the training course, including 30 trainees from pilot communities of Bangladesh, China and Nepal. Dr. Yang Siquan, Chief Engineer of NDRCC of MCA, and Patrick Haverman, Deputy Country Director of UNDP China, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. 

    Through lectures, Q&A discussions, demonstrations and field training, the training course is organized in six sessions, namely “Experience Sharing on Earthquake Emergency Response”, “Earthquake Emergency Response Technology”, “Field Training of Earthquake Search and Rescue Skills”, “Field Training of Escaping, Self-rescue and Mutual-rescue Skills in Earthquake”, “Field visit to Haidian Public Security and Protection Museum” and “Sharing and Discussion on the Outputs of CBDM Asia II”. The participants shared experience of earthquake emergency management, learned skills of escaping, self-rescue and mutual-rescue in the earthquake, and visited the equipment storeroom of training base for a better knowledge and understanding of search and rescue skills and equipment. The 5-day training course has laid a solid foundation for enhancing the community’s capacity of earthquake response and further promoted the exchange and cooperation among Bangladesh, China, Nepal and UK.
